The Beach Museum of Art Celebrates Their 20th Year Anniversary with This Exhibit
The Beach Museum of Art’s 20th anniversary theme, “You Gotta Have Art,” was inspired by the words embroidered on caps worn by Elizabeth Layton and her husband in many of her self-portraits. The succinct phrase encapsulates how art was a positive force in Elizabeth Layton’s life.
Layton used art to heal herself and give hope to others; her large drawings contemplate universal themes such as aging, death of loved ones, social injustice and love, all through the lens of her own body. Layton is represented in the collections of more than 150 U.S. art institutions, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
