Landscape designer, historian, lecturer, and author Kathryn Aalto focuses on places where nature and culture intersect: teaching literature of nature and place, designing gardens, and writing about the natural world.
She will speak on her most recent book "The Natural World of Winnie-the-Pooh: A Walk Through the Forest that Inspired the Hundred Acre Wood.”
For the past twenty-five years, her focus has been on places where nature and culture intersect: teaching literature of nature and place, designing gardens, and writing about the natural world. As a writer, she has a special interest in the geography of childhood and literary landscapes. Reviews of her latest book and her own writing have appeared in many newspapers and magazines around the world including National Public Radio, People Magazine, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Huffington Post, The Boston Globe and The Chicago Tribune. Kathryn shot a taster documentary for BBC4 on her Winnie book. She lectures widely, both nationally and internationally, to libraries, arboretums, universities and garden and civic clubs. A lecturer in English at Exeter College, she also gives keynote speeches as well as talks on Creative Nonfiction, Free Range Childhoods and the Literature of Nature and Place.
